A Reflection on Time, Identity & Human Change

The City Never Changed

A Reflection on Time, Identity & Human Change
The roads no longer carry the vibrance they once did,
nor do the faces of people tell the stories they used to.
At every doorstep hangs a quiet weariness,
as though happiness itself now lives on rent,
sheltered by the remnants of an old memory.
I wandered through the city in search of my own identity,
but every mirror whispered the same truth —
“You are no longer who you once were;
you are merely a shadow drifting
with the current of time.”
Tongues spoke endlessly,
yet the streets of understanding remained deserted.
Some relationships were once deeper than words could ever express,
but now even they have faded into a forgotten tale,
lost within a WhatsApp ‘Last Seen’.
I remained silent, perhaps because I was afraid of the noise,
or perhaps silence itself had become my oldest language.
And in the end, a realization came to me gently —

The city had never really changed.
It was only the people who had changed,
leaving behind a faint, quiet trace
of what they once were.
